Variable of the Day, Ancient Egypt: Chariot equipment – disc

Temple of Ramses III at Medinet Habu

NOTE:  These disc attachements are consistently found on royal chariots.  Examples found among the chariot equipment from the tomb of Tutankhamun show that these discs actually faced forward.  Tutankhamun’s equipment and preserved painted examples (such as the below detail from Medinet Habu) reveal that the discs sometimes included a scene or epigraphic elements.
